Is Von Miller playing tonight? Why Rams’ big trade deadline acquisition is out for ‘Sunday Night Football’

The Rams made the biggest move of the trade deadline when they acquired linebacker Von Miller from the Broncos. Los Angeles sent two draft picks to Denver in exchange for the eight-time Pro Bowler.

Los Angeles is hoping that Miller will provide a boost to the team’s already strong pass rush. The Rams were averaging 3.1 sacks per game entering Week 9, good for the second-highest mark in the NFL.

However, Miller won’t be able to do that yet. At least not in his first game since joining the Rams’ 53-man roster.

Miller isn’t going to be active for the Rams’ “Sunday Night Football” matchup against the Titans. Below is an explanation of why the veteran pass rusher’s debut is being delayed.

Why isn’t Von Miller playing for Rams vs. Titans?

Miller is dealing with an ankle injury that will keep him out for “Sunday Night Football” against the Titans. Miller missed his final game as a Bronco while dealing with the injury and it lingered enough that the Rams want to give him an extra week to heal.

Miller practiced in a limited capacity on Thursday, but he was held out of practice on Wednesday and Friday because of the injury. He was deemed a game-time decision for “Sunday Night Football” on Friday by Rams coach Sean McVay.

“We’re going to really use all of this time that we have up until kickoff,” McVay said in a press conference. “He’ll probably be closer to kind of a game-time decision for us.”

That said, it doesn’t sound like this will sideline Miller long-term. McVay said that Miller is making “good progress” in his recovery.

“If you’d ask Von, I think he would say, ‘Hey I’m feeling better, making good progress.’ And that’s all you can really ask,” McVay said, per SI.com.

As such, Miller should have a good chance to play in Week 10 on “Monday Night Football” against the 49ers.
